Ms BLUThe beautiful and inspiring Ms BLU, founder of Organik B.L.U – the hugely successful social networking website based on spirituality, talks to blessence magazine.com about the website, her life, babies, and more....

What does the name stand for?
Organic to me means natural, without being genetically modified - just pure and natural.
I changed the 'c' to a 'k' to give it extra flavour.

The B.L.U stands for Black Lesbians Unite.

Why did you create the website?
There was a very wide market for black lesbian women to come together, from a different dimension, not just to socialise, talk about raves or relationships. I wanted to highlight the spiritual aspect of women.

Most of Organik is who I am. Basically I created what I needed, which was support and a community of women who were like-minded. I would like to see organic spiritual growth.

The site is imperatively needed because, take away us being lesbians, we are women at the end of the day. Some of us have grown so fast, so quickly. We haven’t really bridged from childhood to womanhood. No one gave us a manual to do this. We just grew organically.

I felt that there was a need, just from listening to different women talk. I didn’t just hear what they said. I also heard what they didn’t say.

Organik provides the platform for us to all stand on and work together, as a team – to make something happen, do something positive – to even go down in history.

organik_blu_2.jpgWhere do you see the site going in the future?
I really don’t know where it’s going to go because it’s going without me doing anything.

I would like it to continue to grow in numbers and in substance. I really want the women who join Organik to get something from it. Not only to meet people but to also get knowledge – to be educated in how to deal with themselves.

I have plans for the future for Organik but for now I just want it to continue growing organically.

When did you start Organik B.L.U?
17th May 2008.

How old are you?
You want to know how old I am? (laughs). I’m 37.

What’s your occupation?
I am a jack of all trades, and master of none (laughs). I am a web designer, that’s my background.

I am also a key worker, working with socially excluded children who basically need love and attention. I love teaching people about who they are and bringing out the beauty in them.

Tell us about your wife
She is my life-long companion who is journeying with me, assisting me. She is a mirror who continuously allows me to see who I am. She is a reflection of who I am.   In a nutshell, she’s beautiful. We’ve been married for two years and together for five.

How was your wedding?
It was very emotional. Everybody was crying. It wasn’t about the vastness. It was about intimacy and the people who had been journeying with us.
It was very family-orientated and very beautiful.
We got married at Kings Cross registry office and the reception was held at our house.

What do you think about civil partnerships?
Honestly, I believe it’s a census, but I used that census for me to show my wife and the world how much I love her.
I think it’s a great thing that the government or society is beginning to recognise that same-sex marriages are needed. We now have a place to express our love openly for each other.

jurnee_copy.jpgChildren?
I have one, her name is Robin. She’s 19 and no-longer living at home with me. She’s an independent woman and is on a journey of finding herself too.

Do you intend to have any more?
Hell no! They say that nature has a way of making you forget the pain of childbirth but somehow it forgot me because I remember everything!
My wife wants to have children and I will support her 100 per cent but me, I am not going through that process again.

How would you go through that process?
You mean my wife? (laughs). Let’s make that part clear! I think we would use artificial insemination or a brother-man.
The other option would be going totally blind, or whatever she would like to do but she would not have sex with a man.

Are you a Blessence raver?
Yay! I’ve been there a few times. I used to DJ there.

I looked forward to Blessence because it is guaranteed to have a mature crowd.

What do you think about Blessence expanding into a magazine?
I think it’s absolutely bloody great mate! (in a thick cockney accent).

I am in full support of it. Any sort of positive growth is beautiful because at the end of the day somebody within our community is trying to fill the gap.

What message would like you leave for our readers?
Blessence Magazine is doing what Organik is doing – we are making people aware that we are more than lesbians.

Readers, continue to support positive ventures within our community because we need it. Without your support we cannot grow.

Since being interviewed Ms B.L.U was nominated for a Black LGBT Community Development award.
