Sky & Monica
Sky met Monica on the internet, before moving to the Dominican Republic.
The distance, however, did not stop them staying in touch although they started off as just good friends.
Many conversations and a few trips back and forth later, love blossomed. Sky (who would not face up to it at first), now thought that ‘this woman was just fantastic.’
By the time Monica came to visit again, Sky had purchased a unique ring and briefed the children about the forth-coming plan.
All was in order; Sky had planned to take Monica horse-riding in the mountains on a beautiful piece of land she had purchased. The mountain spot boasted a log-cabin bar which over-looked the sea.
At the top of the mountain Sky had arranged champagne and a wedding setting with seats.
The children disappeared right on cue.
“Come on, let’s take pictures”, she said, and then got down on one knee:
“I produced the ring and asked her to marry me. It was very emotional, Monica was crying.”
They celebrated later that evening with a romantic dinner.
The couple got married 01st October 2008 in Chelmsford, UK.
Sky again organised everything: “It was a fantastic day, I organised everything as a surprise. Monica only organised the dress, the colour and the bridesmaids.”
Sky also organised a harpist and for petals to be scattered on the ground, something which Monica had always dreamed of.
Sky didn’t stop there either; she crowned it all by organising a honeymoon trip to Bangkok, Thailand complete with a first class flight upgrade.
One day they hope to return to that beautiful mountain spot and build a home there.
Coco & Pat
Pat tells the story:
“We had known each other for 18 years. We liked each other back then but I watched Coco walk into a 16-year relationship.
August 2006, 18 years later, we bumped into each other at a party in Brixton. We both said a surprised ‘O, hello!’ and quickly started chatting. We left the party and jumped into Coco’s BMW convertible.
It was a lovely warm night. We rode with the sun roof down. We parked at the Embankment and strolled along the river.
I knew I still liked Coco and didn’t waste time telling her. She said she felt the same way.
We spent a lot of time together, including going on dates. Then one night Coco called me and asked if we were going out together.
Straight away I told her that in my head we were already married! Two days later Coco called me to ask if I was serious about what I had said. I told her that I was very serious.
She moved in with me February 2007. She said that it would be nice if we could get married the following year, around Valentine's Day.
We decided to go ahead and set a date for the wedding. I suggested that it could take place on my birthday, which would have been Valentine’s weekend.
The next year was spent planning and saving up. Everyone, including our families, got involved.
By November we had bought the rings and on 16th February 2008 we had a beautiful civil partnership wedding officiated by a lesbian Reverend."
