Voice Male from Andrew Prince Print E-mail

It's usually very hard for me to talk about myself, and I know that's one of the reasons some people find me to be enigmatic. On top of that I am a shy person, so here I will attempt to shed some light on who I am,

Andrew Prince

My name is Andrew Prince and I live in Clapham, south London. I'm not originally a Londoner but it has been my adopted home since 1988 when I moved from Jamaica. I'm 44 years old and the second child and second boy of six children. My parents, sisters and brother have their homes in Jamaica and the USA.

Before leaving Jamaica, schooling included Denbigh High, the Institute of Management and Production, and the Jamaica School of Dance.

I worked for Juici Beef in May Pen and was one of their first member of staff. I then worked as an Accounts Clerk for a branch of local government in Kingston, just before moving to London.

I lived for a while with my aunt in Streatham and attended Brixton College where I studied computing, which lead to my current job as an IT Consultant.

Anything to do with computers I'm your man; web design, networking, computer maintenance and diagnostics. I even build the things.

UKBlackOut.comIn 2000 I founded UKBlackOut.com, the only black lesbian and gay resource of its kind in Europe. I also administer websites for other community organisations.

In 2006 I co-founded UK Black Pride. After resigning from this project I co-founded OutburstUK. This is a national organisation formed to give a platform, voice and supportive environment to the black LGBT community in the UK. OutburstUK is responsible for the annual Outburst Festival, but we are more than a festival and as an organisation. We will be launching our national programme of events in 2009, so make sure you visit www.outburstuk.org to be kept updated.

I have always been involved in the community in one way or another; volunteering for projects, hosting club nights, promoting events, fundraising and advocacy. I was also involved with the Stop Murder Music Campaign to support Outrage at the 2004 London Pride, after the brutal murder of Brian Williamson in Jamaica.

In March 2007 I received a Black LGBT Community Award for Communications.

In addition to my day job I serve as the Director of OutburstUK, as the B.A.M.E Equalities and Diversities Representative for Pride London, and a Trustee on the board of rukus! Federation. I am also involved with the Black Disabled Achievers Group for people with learning disabilities.

OutburstUK

In my spare time I read a lot, I go to the cinema, theatre, exhibitions, visit or entertain friends, spend time with relatives, or just laze on the sofa at home watching TV.

Presently I’m decorating my flat, which is using up a lot of my time.

So, there you have it, not so much of a mystery after all!
