SykesPassion, freedom and expression of self is what defines Sykes. As her music navigates us around her world we feel the psych of this talented singer and entertainer.

Sometimes the road is a little rough, as in Bulletproof. This song embodies relevance and current 'gangsta' life issues along with an Akon-style, reggae-meets-hip-hop flavour. There's the shocking presence of gunshots and bullets but this is cushioned by an instruction to youths to 'load your mind and not that gun' and to 'choose life and not choose stress'.

SykesWe feel intoxicated by Beergoggles, in which the effect of downing one-too-many is presented in easy rap style. It may be tongue in cheek but the 'drink sensibly' message is still there.

In Hot Fudge Sykes toys with the boys. She's not afraid to display true grit with a sexy edge. Her tone is both mocking and challenging - can you handle it? This rap tune is sweet, mellow and very smooth, just like the artist.

We see more of the same in Wot U Lookin 4, the rhythmic and melodious R&B track, which hears 'bad chic' Sykes trying out her wooing skills, and seemingly succeeding. You can't help thinking that this one could have been written for the ladies. Or at least it wouldn't be criminal to imagine so, given the two very sensual female vocals on the track.

The true essence of the feisty Brummie and 'friendly rebel', however, is captured in U Cannot Do. This 'hardcore' rock track belts out emotion along with a screaming guitar and weighty hip-hop vibe. Sykes' passion and love of music is like no other and this is evident all over the track.

We met Sykes when she performed at Soul Naturelle club night in London.
